Nowadays one can purchase antique clocks almost in any antique shop. In the XXI century not only successful people may get it but it became also a hobby of average persons.
The very first steps in making mantel clocks were found in the XIV and XV centuries. Clocks were made of iron and were wound with the help of weight. The scheme and elements were similar to average tower clocks the same as the appearance.
In the XV century period clocks were inserted walls' consoles. Later on a wood console became a part of clocks' frame and was designed the same style and ornament as clocks had. Room clocks played a significant role in the decoration of premises. They were a component of the entire interior ensemble where all the details had to be done due to the dominating style of the epoch. The most prominent clock masters of applied art such as Roentgen, Goutier and Benemann, also worked over the artistic appearance of the clocks. They worked over their personal models and made clocks in the unequalled exemplars. Only at the end of the XVIII century the copies of the most notable models were found.
